The annual lecture series celebrates the life of Guillaume Daniel Delprat, who was an engineer and metallurgist, and a pioneer of Australian mining industry.
Major technological changes are currently taking place with the transition to renewable energy sources, electrical power storage, the use of electricity in transportation and the reduction in the use of fossil fuels. These new technologies rely on the availability of advanced materials, and all require the supply of metals and metal compounds. At the same time, there are the ongoing challenges of reducing ore grades, and increasing chemical complexity of primary and secondary metal sources. In this lecture, Peter will examine the Australian response to these challenges and opportunities.
